Description
Up for sale is an ORIGINAL 1ST TMOQ PRESSING of the infamous Led Zeppelin recording- Live On Blueberry Hill.
A 2-LP set recorded live at the LA Forum in September 1970.
This is the very first 'Trade Mark Of Quality' version of this release- having the large numbered labels (original version) indicating that it was released around 1970/71- basically the first year of production. As far as I know most later large numbered labels were black on white and added a black rim around the label edge - these are the original 'Large Numbered' versions .
This particular record is of interest also because both vinyls have 1/2 labels, though the sides are 1-4 as should be.
Matrix prefixes are EV-666 for record one and EV-664 for record two- THE ORIGINAL PLATES!
The only prior release of this show was on the 'Blimp' Label, released a few weeks after the show. The people responsible for these issues were basically still 'TMOQ'- using the same plates, but as then yet to acquire the 'Trade Mark Of Quality' moniker that became infamous around the world for these sorts of releases.
Both vinyls are coloured (deep yellow, or orange depending on the light!)- also indicating an original release.
Another point of interest with this set is the cover- basically it has had some very 'groovy' psychedelic home-made art applied over the original stamped title! The artist has dated it at the bottom by writing, ' Rainbow Records 1976'- whether this is when the art was applied I don't know but the record itself definitely dates to around the 1970-71 era as stated above. The art is quite well done and very evocative of the '70's era, making this a bit of a Fan's curio as well as a rarity!
I would say because of the rarity and uniqueness of this item that condition is almost inconsequential but I will rate it anyway:
Artwork aside I would rate the cover as 'Good'. There is a full seam split to the top of the sleeve which has been partly repaired by having a white label sticker applied- this sticker also has writing on the reverse. There is some staining and wear but overall pretty solid.
The vinyls I would visually grade as 'Very Good'. There are some surface marks/lines but nothing that looks deep or is feel-able. There are also various pressing flaws as is standard with these releases ( because of the nature of these recordings the pressings are never great and contain their own visual flaws and sonic deficiencies on playback. Though legendary, this is a Lo-Fi presentation to say the least! ). The labels are pretty clean, though a previous owner has written '3' and '4' in very small writing on the record 2 labels to distinguish the sides.
So there you have it- a genuine '70's artifact and piece of 'Fan' memorabilia!
