Led Zeppelin - 1st Album Turquoise lettering
If you're reading this then you probably already know all about this album, so I'll try not to bore you with the usual guff about it too much. Allegedly only 2000 copies released in 1969, the holy grail for Zeppelin collectors etc etc.
First off, this is a UK original not a recent reproduction. What you would expect:
- Superhype labels
- Matrix: 588171 A/1 B/1
- Red/plum labels
- Turquoise lettering on front cover, not orange
Vinyl: If you want a mint condition one or even a good condition one then this is not for you. There are plenty of surface marks on both sides of the record and there is audible crackle. However, there are no terribly deep scratches and having played it recently, I didn't find it skipping at any point. The photo I've taken makes it look great because its a digital photo and they never tell the truth, but there are plenty of surface marks, this you should know. Both labels are quite clean (see photo) with only the expected spindle marks around the hole. Disc itself is not in any way warped, spins nice and level.
Cover: Fairly significant creasing on the bottom right front (see photo) which is more visible as a result of the lamination. A bit of discolouring on the left hand front edge where the lamination has split and traces of dirt have got in. Same sort of thing on the back really, very small grubby areas on the edges where the lamination has failed. Silver line along the bottom on the front cover that seems to be important to some folk; hey folks, it's there ! No evidence of any sticker marks, price marks etc.
I bought this album in 1986 from the Record and Tape Exchange in Notting Hill Gate (does anyone else remember it ? does it still exist ?). It was sold to me at the time on the basis of not being a great looking copy, but I was keen to own it and they didn't come up for sale very often at all in those days. Having spent quite a lot of money on it and got it home I wondered if it had been a good idea, but I was pleasantly surprised when I played it as it did not sound as bad as I thought it might. It has certainly been well looked after during the 25 years that I have owned it and has always been one of my most prized bits of vinyl. Someone else's turn now.
Despite having given it a hard time in my description of its condition, I have no doubt that whoever wins it will be delighted to own it and will play it to enjoy hearing it. Customer satisfaction is important to me (see my feedback, pretty good eh ?) so that is why I am underselling this one.
If you really want to own a copy of this record and don't want to pay stupid money then this may be your best opportunity, jolly good luck.
