Description
“Saturn” b/w “Call For All Demons” on Saturn, cat. #: G7OW-5257 (“Saturn” side) & G7OW-5259 (“Call For All Demons” side). Grades VG-. Disc is still glossy overall with numerous light marks. Plays very nicely over all for age and rarity. “Saturn” side dead wax matrix: (stamped) G7 OW 5257 1S. “Call For All Demons” side dead wax matrix: (stamped) G7 OW 5259 1S. Small writing on labels. Very rare 1956 single from Sun Ra.
According to the excellent website From Sunny Blount To Sun Ra: The Chicago Years:
"In 2006, Saturn G7OW5257/G7OW5259 (nothing on it but the matrix numbers) showed up for sale on ebay. It turned out to be a coupling of the first version of “Saturn” (Side A) with “Call for All Demons” (Side B). An order for test pressings from RCA is retained in the Alton Abraham papers. "Call for All Demons" and "Saturn" were two of the three 45-rpm test pressings ordered on August 2, 1956. On October 15, 1956, Saturn placed an order with RCA Victor for 254 copies of G7OW5257/5259, taking delivery on October 23. A statement from RCA Victor dated November 5, 1956 shows that Saturn was paying 20 cents a record for the pressings (Alton Abraham papers, Box 16, Folder 6). The total quantity ordered was down significantly from Z222, which helps to explain why it took so long for collectors to find 5257/5259."
