Description
This is a great rare album called "Le Jazz Primitif" from Trinidad.
The featured artists are Rupert Clemendore and John Buddy Williams.
Rupert's side is nice sophisticated jazz with Carribean touches but not too primitive.
On side two, Williams plays it primitive with a trio of winds and a powerhouse rhythm section which uses both a two-beat Calypso and a hot-blooded shuffle on the cymbals.
Williams mashes up Calypso, Latin rhythms, Trinidadian Jazz, Venezuelan Joropo Folk, drum-heavy beats, Sax-clarinet, Swing, raw recording and a rowdy party crowd.
This is way better and far more rare than the numerous glossy studio-recorded tourist records.
Cook always sought the genuine source of the music experience, much like Alan Lomax was searching for and preserving in the United States.
On side B track 2, you can even hear the roots of rocksteady and reggae.
A time machine back to what it was like in Trinidad in 1961.
Probably the first Calypso Jazz record ever, this is an important historical artifact that somehow survived for 45 years in great condition.
Cook label 1082 from 1961.
Great haunting cover photo. Light wear and seam splits.
Vinyl is translucent turquoise. Excellent condition with minor scuffs.
