Night Of The Phantom
Larry & The Blue Notes found their beginnings in a garage band with Rocky Shores (drums), Larry Roquemore (vocals) and Larry Slater (guitar) who got together to play a Halloween party in 1962. It was in the Ft. Worth suburb of Hurst, Texas and the group just grew and grew until there were five of 'em.
A few members changed out, the Beatles happened and they were well into the new sounds. Somehow, they came to the attention of Maj. Bill Smith (anyone remember "Hey Baby") who got them into the studio to record the high school band.
The first song they selected was a tune they called "Night Of The Sadist." They were inspired by the urban legends of the hook-handed guy who terrorized parkers in lover's lane and cooked up this song to be creepy, and musical at the same time. Maj. Bill and others thought that 'sadist' would keep it off the radio so it was changed to 'Night Of The Phantom.'

The finished recording, flipped with another original "All My Own" was released in 1965 on the little Tiris Records label in North Texas. Somehow, it got picked up for national distribution by 20 Century. Larry & The Blue Notes cut many other singles for Major Bill but this is the one that most remember: "The Night Of The Phantom."
