Track Listing
1. Blues Wellington 2. Amazonia 3. Voce E Eu (You And I) 4. Simple Invention 5. Entr' Acte 6. My Funny Valentine 7. Chega De Saudade (No More Blues)Shank Rules! By Andrew Stevenson on September 6, 2004 "Executive Suite" is a reminder of what a fine group the LA 4 was. Reedman Bud Shank, guitarist Laurindo Almeida, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Jeff Hamilton, outstanding musicians all, played together so seamlessly they are like the inner workings of a fine watch. "Executive Suite" is also a reminder of what a great musician Bud Shank is and I do mean great! Listen to him on the discs first and second cuts, Hamilton's "Blues Wellington" and Almeida's "Amazonia." The former starts soft and lovely with Almeida's acoustic guitar; then Shank enters, his growling sax bursting into a passionate solo. His flute work on "Amazonia" is both beautiful and forceful. This CD is well worth owning as are all of the LA 4 releases.
I look for two elements in choosing recordings.
By jazophile on January 22, 2012 I am an audiophile as well as having had a life long love affair with Jazz. The play-back system I've put together has the ability to resolve a recording with extraordinary detail. This can work against me if the recording has not been engineered well in the first place. So the performance has to be a good one with good originality and musicianship and it has to give me my audiophile thrill ride at the same time.I find that the Concord label is really great. Many of the LA4 recordings are excellent and fulfill both elements admirably. I'm not saying that they are the last word in "HIPNESS" but very good strait ahead jazz with conceptual and memorable arrangements. I can't speak to the period before Jeff Hamilton because at this time I have not yet listened to the older recordings with Shelly Manne on drums. I recommend this series highly to folks that get a kick out of very well recorded material.
Condition
I grade records conservatively and try to be as comprehensive as possible. Records can look fine, yet sound like crap. For this reason, I listen to every record/song I sell. Any dust you see in my pics is gone when you receive it. I thoroughly clean each LP after I shoot the pics and before I listen to them. I also grade covers and records separately. If you collect for aesthetics, this is important. I care more about the vinyl than the packaging but want you to have no surprises, so I try to explain both with as much detail as possible.
These are used records. That doesn't mean you must tolerate bad vinyl. I can tolerate surface noise only if it's low-level, and doesn't spoil the listening experience. If it's wall to wall, that record is junk and I refuse to pass it along. I want you to be happy with your purchase.
Be advised, though, with me it's more about the music. I can tolerate a crappy cover on a decent LP so long as it's doing its job; protecting the LP as designed--especially if it has some historic or artistic significance (design, etc.). In such cases, I am willing to hold on to a damaged cover even though it has outlived its monetary value. I also use center-hole, plain white covers when an original cover is beyond saving. Buyers of anything in the middle get both.
I rate this vinyl Near Mint
Gorgeous. Always handled carefully. Few visible flaws. Superb recording and pressing. No skips. Next to no surface noise. No groove wear. The labels are clean, vivid and bright, lead-in grooves are clean. The vinyl has a high gloss. Always stored in audiophile inner sleeve.
I rate this cover as Excellent (EX):
Great color and crisp appearance. Sturdy, used cover, with sharp edges and comers, Very light ring wear on front panel. No other wear worth noting. Always poly sleeved. Ships with new Mobile Fidelity Master inner sleeve and a new poly outer. Will be packed carefully to ensure safe arrival.

(Now for the business part)
- I don't end auctions early and all transactions must be completed within eBay.
- For multiple-disc orders, I will bundle up to three LPs in the same mailer. Since shipping is by weight, double LPs count as two. There is no handling charge. Due to the volume of my packing materials, three records is the limit. Combined postage on bundled records is $4.00
- If you're only buying one item, please pay as soon as you win your auction, so I can get it mailed ASAP. If you don't pay within three days of winning your auction, I reserve the right to cancel your order and re-list the album.
- If you have special shipping needs, email me and I'll do whatever I can to ship your order as cheaply and as securely as is possible
- I don't take offers unless the listing has a "Best Offer" option
- I don't sell bundles beyond what's described above
- This should be an enjoyable experience. If anything is wrong with your order upon its arrival, PLEASE CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY with your complaint. I promise to do all I can to make you happy.
I love music and records. This is my private collection, one I accumulated over the last 40 years. I bought many of them new and have kept them that way. Some were gifts, some are promo copies I got while working in radio or bought used. All have been cleaned and stored properly. Unless otherwise stated, albums that came with printed sleeves or other promotional items still have them.
PLEASE NOTE: To prepare my listings, I copy and paste from numerous sources. I try to proofread and edit closely but do mess up occasional. Although infrequent, any such error is accidental and NOT meant to mislead you in any way. If you encounter one, please bring it to my attention. I promise to do all I can to make it right. I want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.
