Thousands of lots will be offered throughout 2010, this live auction features coke memorabilia and vintage glass. Ronald & Brenda Pettus are lifelong North Alabama residents who reached out to thousands of young people in their capacity as educators and historians. Part of their commitment to the preservation of the past was building the Pettus Museum in Killen, AL. The museum was designed as a tribute to those young men and women of the area who participated primarily in the US military conflicts of the 20th century. The Pettus Museum was also a monument to the service of the Shoals area, furthering the growth and development of the United States as a whole. We are proud to offer many special items from the museum at auction. They represent a tribute to the lifelong dedication of the Pettus family and their desire to educate future generations.

We combine to save you money & ship in-house based on weight. L138 9 LP BIG DADDY BAND OF 59 FROGMAN HENRY DR DEMENTO
Item Description We offer for your consideration this collection of LPS , including The Carpenters, Astrid Gilberto, Lionel Hampton, Leonard Bernstein, Roy Hamilton, Helen Reddy and now for the rest of the Story. There are two VERY RARE albums here Alive and Well Living in New Orleans and Still Doin His Thing by New Orleans legendary Clarence FROGMAN Henry. Record is on original Roulette label from 1969. Frogman Henry had a big hit titled BUT I DO in the early 60's and toured with the Beatles in 1964, Bernsteins Grand Cayon is also hard to find, but the RAREST of them all is the last photos for BIG DADDY. The original story went that in August 1959, a Los Angeles-based musical group known as Big Daddy had finally wangled a recording contract. Their manager, wanting to give their first record as much of a push as possible, got the band booked on a USO tour of Southeast Asia, hoping for some positive publicity. Unfortunately, the United States had no military involvement in Southeast Asia in 1959, or so the official story said, and therefore the publicity value of the tour would have turned out to be nothing had the band come back at all, which it didnt. Given up for dead after their vehicle was found mired in quicksand, the band spent the next twenty-four years in the custody of Laotian revolutionaries. The Laotians more or less adopted Big Daddy as Fellow Travelers. The war, of course, went on, and during the Sixties and Seventies, returning US troops told tales of an American band being held captive. Special Forces were eventually able to piece together the story, and after the usual interminable delays, a rescue attempt was mounted in 1983, under the guise of a British motion-picture production. Finally back in the States, Big Daddy agonized about that first recording session they had missed. Government officials brought in some sheet music and arranged a recording session at Camp David. The cultural isolation of northern Laos meant that Big Daddy had heard virtually none of the last two decades' worth of popular music, which meant that their recordings of Seventies and Eighties material, all that could be found in the nearest sheet-music store, were arranged for Fifties performance styles. The record, of course, was unreleasable, so naturally it fell to Rhino Records to release it and this was their first record back a fifties style of the Beatles Sgt Peppers Lonly Hearts Club Band. This record recently sold at auction for 200 dollars. There second album in 1985 is EXTREMELY RARE , I could not even find a copy available for sale, this album asked the question was this for real or a PR stunt , which is what it was. But truth or cruel hoax, it didn't matter; Big Daddy was putting out some startlingly funny records in its strange hybrid genre, and two and a half more would follow during the next decade, poking fun at all manner of musical trends, from complete album remakes to Gregorian chant. THEY HAD A SONG ON DR DEMENTOS TOP FIVE ALL TIME LIST. This album is titled Big Daddy aka What Really Happened To The Band Of 59. The truth was Big Daddy was formed as an oldies cover band in Southern California in the 1970s known as Big Daddy Dipstick and the Lube Jobs. They later started playing mashups and parodies, which were published by Oglio Records, and later reissued by Rhino Records. They twice placed on STEROPHILES RECORDS TO DIE FOR list of albums, in 1994 and 1995.This record alone is priceless, I have put an arbitrary value of 350 dollars on it but the end is up to you.Retail Value Estimate: $450-$550
