Description

Kyung-Wha Chung: Walton Stravinsky Violin Concertos, Andre Previn: New Sealed LP.

I noted 18 copies of this LP available on eBay...all previously owned. So I checked sold items and found a few more...also pre-owned. So I checked Amazon and saw two or three more...All previously owned!

So apparently this is the only brand new, sealed copy in the known universe. Now, that might not matter if the performances were ho-hum, but no, this is the classic performance of which Walton wrote, "Superb! As good as Heifetz or Francescatti" (photo). Incidentally, while Walton composed the enormously difficult concerto for Heifetz, the Francescatti is not universally admired. But back to the point: You would be hard pressed to find a finer performance of the Walton Concerto or one so well recorded. And finding one new? Still sealed? With a price tag for $5.49 still on it? Good Luck! By the way, this LP came out in 1973, the year I graduated from high school. And 48 years later it's still brand new, whereas I have aged a bit more than a bit.

Let's not forget about Stravinsky! This performance was top choice in my 2005 Penguin Guide, with a different coupling (photo).
