This superb LP – note the striking cover art – from Westminster (XWN 19055, US pressing, heavy vinyl, black label, mono) features the great Hans Knappertsbusch conducting the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra in a rich and stirring all-Wagner program, recorded in the Studios of Bavarian Radio in November 1962 (sound engineer: Peter Curiel).
The exact program is as follows:
Rienzi: Overture (13:25)
The Flying Dutchman: Overture (12:18)
Siegfried idyll (18:53)
Lohengrin: Prelude to Act I (7:15)
This is exalted conducting – and playing – by any measure, with Knappertsbusch bringing a lifetime’s experience and understanding to works at the very center of his repertoire.
There are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by John Natoli, provided in English only. The remarkable cover art was executed by Jules Maidoff.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the front laminated jacket is EXCELLENT. Really, this is close to NM. There is faint shelfwear and mild discoloration to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no bends, seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not completely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), this is a fine copy and playback is superb. However, if you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP – this is a lovely collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
