Description

This is an auction for probably the rarest Paul Weller / Style Council item, King Truman "Like A Gun" released on UK Acid Jazz records in 1988.  Cat No JAZID9T.  This was recently featured in Record Collector as one of the rarest records of the last 20 years.  Copies have been known to change hands for up to £500 but I'm starting the auction at £30 with a low reserve.  It's also a great track to boot, sounding similar to late Parliament or Funkadelic.  If it doesn't sell, I hate to part with records, so I'll be filing this away forever with the rest of the collection. Don't miss this opportunity!

I'll cautiously grade this as NM+, though it's been played no more than a handful of times.  It comes in the original Acid Jazz company sleeve.

The story is that Paul Weller recorded the P-Funk-esque "Like A Gun" while still under contract with another record label, so released the single under the psuedonym "King Truman".  The record company got wind of this and forced the withdrawal and recall of the single on the day of release.  A minisule number slipped through the net - of which this is one.  I was an Acid Jazz collector from JAZID1T (Galliano's "Frederic Lies Still" of course) to about JAZID56 or 57 so my local record shop at the time (short lived on Mill Road, Cambridge - can't remember the name) would hold everything that came in for me, including this which has been tucked away in a plastic sleeve for nearly 18 years.  I'm now reluctantly breaking my Acid Jazz collection to buy the wife a car.

A ridiculously rare record with a ridiculously low reserve.  I feel a bit sick in the stomach -  Good luck!
