King Crimson – Red Island Records ILPS 9308 UK 1st press Vinyl, LP, housed in a poly-lined pale blue inner sleeve and released in October 1974.
The vinyl appears to have been lightly played and is in great condition. It played through beautifully on my stereo - no hop, stick or jump. It is housed in its original poly-lined pale blue inner sleeve, which has some light ring-wear and creasing, but is otherwise in good condition. The sleeve also has some light ring-wear but it is also in good shape otherwise - no rips or writing. The spine is intact and legible. Red is King Crimson's seventh studio album, released in October 1974 on Island Records in the United Kingdom and Atlantic Records in North America and Japan. The album was recorded at Olympic Studios in London in July and August 1974, and produced by the band themselves.
Fripp disbanded King Crimson roughly two weeks before the release of the album. Red became their lowest-charting album at that time, spending only one week in the UK Albums Chart at No. 45 and in the US Billboard 200 at No. 66. However, it was well received among fans and critics. It has received further praise retrospectively, being recognised as one of the band's best works, and has been reissued many times.
In 2023, Sean Murphy of PopMatters wrote, "If ever a rock album could be said to invoke Poe’s famous “unity of effect” theory, Red remains one of the most fully felt, affecting artistic statements in the genre."
