King Crimson . Lizard . Gatefold Sleeve . Island . Pink Rim and Palm Tree Label . ILPS 9141 . 1970 A - 2 U B - 2 U . Very Good/Excellent Condition
Having not played this record for 40 years or more, I decided to listen to this amazing album today and it still sounds great although you can hear a faint crackling sound on the quiet bits, but this is to be expected with an old record. I noticed on the opening to 'The Battle Of Glass Tears' there was a slight clicking noise, but it didn't last long enough to spoil the record, also the sound fades just slightly in one or two places. Overall the vinyl is in very good condition, holding it up to the light you can see some faint hairline scratches which don't appear to affect the quality of sound. The label on Side 1 is fading a bit (see photo) and there is a little mottling, the label on Side 2 is much sharper, but there is still a bit of mottling. I have included the inner plastic sleeve which I believe to be the original when I bought the album.
The gatefold sleeve is in very good/excellent condition, there is some surface wear and the shine has gone in one or two places, there is also a couple of creases, but overall the sleeve looks very tidy with no major defects. The inside is aging a bit and there is some mottling and surface marks, also it is creased near the spine on the inside. The spine itself is in great condition with no creases or splits.
I am keeping the price low because I'm not sure of the true value of this record in it's present condition. I bought it back in 1970 on the first day of release so it must be an original, but I'm not one hundred percent sure. Listening to it I forgot how brilliant this album is especially the wonderful Mellotron segments which dominate the album. I've got this album on Cassette and CD, but it's not quite the same as the original.
