Description
Kenny Graham’s Afro-Cubists - “Caribbean Suite” (1953) Esquire Records (20-023) UK 1st Press 10” Vinyl LP
Matrix numbers: ELP 437, ELP 438.
“Caribean Suite” is Graham’s most extended work to date, a sequence of independent yet interlinked musical impressions…linked by a common “programme” and a common bond of Afro-Cubism. It contains some of the most ingenious and effective writing we’ve yet had in the sphere of Afro-jazz, that branch of modern music of which the composer is himself so distinguished a pioneer. Denis Preston - taken from the sleeve notes.
A very rare and fascinating document in Modern British Jazz. It highlights just how progressive Kenny Graham was in his approach. The musicianship and sound contained on this LP is truly phenomenal. However, please be aware that due to the condition of this 10”, I’m offering it more as piece of Jazz history, rather than a high-end collectable.
The envelope sleeve is Good (G), it doesn’t have rips or tears and considering its age, is in nice condition.
The vinyl is also Good (G), there are numerous small, light surface marks on the record which results in constant surface noise during playback. That said, you can still appreciate the music. The labels are generally clean and all the text is fully legible.
I grade conservatively in accordance with The Rare Record Price Guide 2014 and I believe the above grading is accurate and fair. Please read the (G) grading before bidding.
Postage is free within the UK, Airmail to Europe is £7, U.S.A £9, all other international bidders please contact me for shipping rates. Please see my other items.
