In 1956, when the New York street recordings of the legendary Moondog (Louis Hardin) first appeared in Britain, one man who became instantly fascinated by them was British tenor player Kenny Graham. He took a band of top British jazzmen into the studio, including Phil Seamen [sic] and Stan Tracy [also sic] and recorded a number of Moondog's compositions as his "Moondog Suite". He also composed some pieces of his own, heavily influenced by his new hero, and dubbed them the "Suncat Suite". The results were issued on this album, which was greeted with almost total indifference, so that it is now extremely scarce and much in demand. The engineer on the sessions, incidentally, was a young fellow named Joe Meek. The sleeve, featuring a striking painting by Joan Miro, has a little foxing around the ages due to age, but the record itself is in excellent condition. It does have a sticker on the label noting the fact that it arrived at the BFBS Radio Station in Gibraltar on February 2nd 1960, where it stayed for more than 35 years before being acquired by the present seller.
