This handsome and very rare LP – dedicated by the artist – from Mercury (MG 10138, US pressing, black/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features pianist Constance Keene in a remarkable recital devoted to works by J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, and Ludwig van Beethoven, warmly recorded in September 1952.

The exact contents are as follows:

J.S. Bach: French Suite No. 5 in G Major BWV 816

Ludwig van Beethoven: 32 Variations in C minor WoO 80

Johannes Brahms: Variations on a Theme of Paganini Op. 35

There are insightful liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket – printed in English only. The striking cover photo of Keene is similarly uncredited.

On the reverse side of the jacket can be found the following hand-written dedication by the pianist:

“To David – in admiration and affection” Constance – July 24 – 1953”

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is GOOD. Both the spine and lower seam have been discreetly tape repaired. There is also corner wear, shelfwear, and aging. However, the album remains solid and attractive – not a collector’s copy, but still a quite decent one.

The condition of the LP is VERY GOOD+. Though there is light surface noise throughout, in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.
