In data 21 Giugno 2012, i Keane hanno fatto il loro contributo al Upstairs at United Series , la registrazione di quattro brani dal loro catalogo in un modo giù spogliato che comprendeva solo voce, pianoforte / organo, chitarra, e limited percussion . On June 21st, 2012, Keane made their contribution to the Upstairs at United series, recording four songs from their catalog in a stripped down fashion that included only vocals, piano/organ, guitar, & limited percussion. The songs recorded that day were "It's Not True", "Sea Fog", "Silenced By The Night", and "Fly To Me." Each song in this session was recorded in a single take direct to ¼ inch tape then cut at 45 RPM for the ultimate listening experience.
Upstairs at United è una serie di registrazioni completamente analogiche ( all-analog recordings ) registrate all'interno dello storico stabilimento United Record Pressing in Nashville, TN. Tutte le registrazioni sono state catturate direttamente su nastro analogico sotto la guida del mastering engineer , Chis Mara , allo studio di registrazione analogico Welcome to 1979, poi riversate su EP 12”a 45 RPM ( giri ). I record sono presentati in un imballaggio Kraft-stile che mette in evidenza l'autentico approccio completamente analogico utilizzato nella fabbricazione di questi record, sono inclusi inserti specifici delle sessioni di registrazione con foto a colori , inoltre , per una perfetta protezione di archivio sono muniti di una busta trasparente richiudibile di alta qualità
Lo scopo della serie Upstairs at United “Upstairs at United series” è di rilasciare musica eccezionale registrata in un classico stile tutto in analogico , e di celebrare la ricca storia musicale e culturale che ha avuto luogo all'interno di questo edificio nei suoi 49 anni di costruzione. Fondata nel 1949, lo stesso anno in qui è nato il record a 45 giri ( 45RPM record ), la United Record Pressing era composta da quattro ragazzi con l'impianto di pressatura in un garage. Le porte della sede attuale furono inaugurate nel 1962. In risposta a un segregato Sud ( segregated South ) , la United creò un appartamento sopra lo stabilimento per ospitare i dirigenti delle etichette discografiche e gli artisti che venivano esclusi dalle sistemazioni alberghiere a causa del colore della loro pelle. L'appartamento, ora chiamato The Motown Suite, è ancora intatto e arredato con il suo arredamento originale. Adiacente l'appartamento è disponibile un ampio spazio dedicato esclusivamente ad ospitare feste discografiche di rilascio e gli altri eventi delle varie etichette e artisti. Tra i tanti, si crede che questa camera abbia ospitato feste per The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, The Cowsills, Wayne Newton, e un party 16-year-old a Hank Williams, Jr. Oltre ad esistere come un monumento al musical e alla storia culturale, lo spazio del piano superiore del United Record Pressing continua a ospitare eventi sia per gli artisti , le etichette e gli altri amanti della musica. Tutte le registrazioni live vengono riprese direttamente su nastro analogico da ¼ di pollice utilizzando per la registrazione una console d'epoca a sedici canali , microfoni vintage e dispositivi esterni, senza sovraincisioni, modifiche o dolcificazioni audio. Quello che si sente è la musica nella sua forma più pura: le registrazioni catturano l'insieme del prodotto finale degli artisti in una camera singola, completa di tutto l'entusiasmo, lo spirito e l'anima, che è il fondamento per questa grande forma d'arte.
Upstairs at United is a series of all-analog recordings recorded inside the historic United Record Pressing plant in Nashville, TN. All recordings were captured directly to analog tape under the leadership of mastering engineer Chis Mara of analog recording studio Welcome to 1979, then cut to 12” EP’s at 45 RPM. The records are presented in a Kraft-style packaging that highlights the authentic all-analog approach used in making these records, include session specific inserts with color photos from the recording sessions, and come in archival quality resealable poly bags. The purpose of the Upstairs at United series is to release outstanding music recorded in a classic all analog style, and to celebrate the rich musical and cultural history that’s taken place inside this 49 year old building. Established in 1949, the same year the 45RPM record was born, United Record Pressing is still the go to pressing plant for the industry from the biggest of big to four guys in a garage. The doors to its present location first opened in 1962. In response to a then segregated South, United created an apartment above the plant to host the record label executives and artists who were excluded from hotel accommodations due to the color of their skin. This apartment, now called the Motown Suite, is still intact and furnished in its original décor. Adjacent to the apartment is a large space solely dedicated to hosting record release parties and other events for labels and artists. Among the many, it’s believed that this room hosted parties for The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, The Cowsills, Wayne Newton, and a signing party for a 16-year-old Hank Williams, Jr. In addition to existing as a monument to our musical and cultural history, the space upstairs at United Record Pressing continues to host events for artists, labels, and other lovers of music. It is in this sacred space that the Upstairs at United series is being recorded. All recordings are engineered by Chris Mara and his analog studio Welcome to 1979 located in Nashville, Tennessee. All recordings were done live directly to ¼ inch analog tape using a sixteen channel vintage recording console and vintage microphones and outboard gear, with no overdubs, edits or audio sweetening. What you hear is music in its most pure form: the recordings capture the end product of the artists together in a single room, complete with all of the enthusiasm, spirit and soul that is the foundation for this great art form.
I Keane sono un gruppo musicale alternative rock britannico formatosi a Battle, East Sussex, nel 1997. Il gruppo è formato dal compositore, bassista e pianista Tim Rice-Oxley, dal cantante Tom Chaplin, dal batterista Richard Hughes e dal bassista Jesse Quin. Prima del 2001, faceva parte del gruppo anche il chitarrista Dominic Scott. La loro musica, rispetto a quella di altri gruppi inglesi come Coldplay e Travis, è caratterizzata dall'assenza di chitarre. I Keane infatti non hanno avuto un chitarrista da quando Scott abbandonò il gruppo nel luglio 2001 e, fino alla pubblicazione del terzo album Perfect Symmetry (2008), i loro pezzi si sono basati fondamentalmente sulla tastiera, che a volte sintetizza il suono della chitarra. È soprannominata per questo motivo "la band senza chitarra".
