Description
Greetings!
This is the very rare 1st album by THE KNICKERBOCKERS titled "Jerk And Twine Time" on Challenge Records # 621. Now, this is the only one of these that I have ever come across and I expect that many collectors have never seen one either. The Knickerbockers were a garage band initially. They were given suits and their manager promoted them as clean cut and cute. They eventually had a big hit titled "Lies" but that came a year after this album. To understand the album, you must understand Challenge Records. Challenge used a blue record label during the years 1959 through 1963. In 1964, they switched to a blue/green label. In 1965 through 1966, Challenge used a black label with their name on top in an oval circle. In 1967, they changed the top of the label by eliminating the oval circle and switched to the word Challenge using block letters only. They also began have Monarch Records press their vinyl for them in 1965. So, all albums pressed from that time will have a very faint machine stamped circle with the letters MR inside of it located in the dead wax next to the labels. These circles are so light and faint that you will need a magnifying glass to see them in most cases. But, this identification is also used to determine the validity of a record. The above album HAS the MR stamps on both sides of the record. This is an ORIGINAL album 1st album by The Knickerbockers. Both the cover and the record are rigid. The record as graded under a bright light grades at a superb NEAR-MINT 8/9. One side has a single, thin and light paper scuff. Otherwise, there are NO needle scratches and NO surface scratches. The vinyl is very shiny and glossy. In fact, I can easily determine that the record was rarely played. I wish I had a scanner to show you how clear and distinct the Silver lettering is on the labels. Really nice! The record jacket (cover) grades at NEAR-MINT 8/9 on the front and back with sharp, vivid colors on the front and snow white on the back. The spine is in excellent shape as is the printing on the spine. However, there apparently was some spots of wear on the top and bottom seams and someone decided that they were an artist touched them up with a felt pen. I have long ago decided not to do this myself and ,in fact, would only trust this type of touch-up to an illustrator friend of mine who has a golden hand (yes, it's you Dee). So, there you have it. Overall, a beautiful and rare album. See FIVE Pictures BelowAny shiny spots on the spine of the album or anywhere else are
