Of all British Invasion bands, Kinks were (or, shall we say: ARE) by far the most eloquent, elegant, sexy, subversive, original and brain-stimulating . I know, I know, you will say: what about the Beatles, Stones, Who, Animals…yes, hats off to all of the above, but the Kinks still remain a monument of musical, artistic and personal integrity, even now, 46  years after their inception.

The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its FAKE ("electronically rechannelled") stereo counterpart. We estimate that FAKE stereo copies of this album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 10:1.

(d)          True Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist (although a few tracks on the “stereo” pressing  are indeed true stereo)

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD (VG)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has a partially split top seam (between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters)

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on the top seam and some minor shelf wear on the bottom seam

-         Small piece of partially removed beige paper packaging tape noted on the spine (visible by about 1 square inch on each side, mostly on the back panel)

-         Cover has some writing on its back side (name of the previous owner written in blue ballpoint pen, about ½ x 1 inch in size)

-         The cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged / bent (nothing significant)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         A small, barely visible liquid paper-repaired patch noted in one corner on the front panel (less than ¼ square inch in size)

-         Cover has a few (4-5) tiny, almost invisible, pinholes (or staple holes) in one corner. These tiny holes are NOT cutout holes.

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease)  in one of the corners.

-         Cover has a few small wrinkles along the seams

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No stamps

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
