Description
Apologies to Pete Townsend's fantastic attempts, but this Kinks album is the best concept album ever made, in my humble opinion. Here is the original mono mix from back in the day on that consistently fantastic vinyl used in Europe throughout the modern vinyl pressing era.
A quick provenance story. In 1972 there was no Internet. Television ignored rock and roll, even in the commercials. Record stores were plentiful but niche. One hippy owner knew a lot about a certain group of records, and the next one knew a lot about another group of records. They wore their headbands at slightly different angles from one another. At least, that was the way it was in the small midwestern town in which I grew up, looking for records-plentiful, but very niche. Any time I was given the opportunity to receive a catalog of import or special records, via a magazine ad or a local message board at said record store, I'd sign up. I was able to order this album along with several others from a particular import catalog I have fond but fuzzy memory of. I do recall I was thrilled with the four to six week delivery times, just to put it all in perspective!!!
