Lizard is very consciously jazz-oriented — the influence of Miles Davis (particularly Sketches of Spain) being especially prominent — and very progressive, even compared with the two preceding albums.
The pieces are longer and have extensive developmental sections and the lyrics are more ornate, while the subject matter is more exotic and rarified.
The doom-laden mood of the first two albums is just as strong, except that the music is more serene.
Jon Anderson of Yes guests on one key number, "Prince Rupert Awakes" (which vocalist/bassist Gordon Haskell never completed), and the album is stronger for his presence.

LABELS: EXCELLENT
Clean, unmarked labels with light spindle traces
VINYL Visual: EXCELLENT
Both surfaces retain their original deep gloss with just some light hairlines/brush marks but nothing of any audible significance
VINYL Audio: EXCELLENT
Plays beautifully throughout with little to fault.
No scratches or loud clicks just an occasional light tick/touch of surface on the quietest moments, nothing major, sounds great
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT
This first edition cover with the inverted spine text has the normal laminate creasing (from new) otherwise crisp and clean apart from the inside which has some ink transfers from one side to the other (again from new)
