KING CRIMSON - IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING
Extremely hard to find earliest UK 1st press especially in such brilliant and barely played condition as this
Year/Label : 1969 UK ISLAND Label number : ILPS 9111 Matrix numbers : ILPS 9111 A 2, ILPS 9111 B//2 Stampers : 1 4 / 1 5Excellent plus (EX+) condition vinyl - many would grade as "near mint", I am sure - weighty, completely flat, and retaining a beautiful jet black sheen. It is only with very close scrutiny under a bright light that just a couple of small, extremely faint and thin wispiest of wispy hairlines can be identified - completely non-obvious, purely superficial and barely discernible. The more I inspect this vinyl the more I think I should be grading it as "near mint" - it really is a beautiful copy. The labels are in excellent plus (EX+) condition also - just a couple of small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label, otherwise perfect. Note the "rough"/textured finish to each label - synonymous with UK very 1st pressings. Clearly this is a record that has been little played (a few times at most) and meticulously looked after. An excellent (EX) condition E. J. Day non-laminated outer gatefold sleeve - such an iconic sleeve and so rare to find an original in such excellent condition as this still. Firm edges with just a little intermittent and very light scuffing on the bottom front edge, a couple of "nicks" and barely noticeable small light scuff marks on the top edges, and a few sporadic tiny "nicks"along with a couple of light scuff marks on the spine, which itself remains firm with spine text intact and legible though the letters "B"in "BY" and "IS" in "ISLAND" are partially obscured (see photos). Nicely defined right angled corners with barely any rubbing, firm opening edges with no fraying, and all colours, iconic art work and text remaining in great condition with perfect definition still. There is no ringwear or unwanted writing and the interior of the gatefold is near perfect. The only blemishes (too strong a word) are a 1.5cm non-obvious surface crinkle adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side and just a couple of small and very light handling/storage grazes towards the edges...nothing really. Eminently presentable still and hard to believe that this outer sleeve is 57 years of age! Excellent plus (EX+) stereo sound quality with no sticks, skips, repeats, distortion or background crackle - wonderful tone and crystal clear stereo reproduction with terrific sound quality throughout. I noticed x3 very, very light clicks mid-way through "I Talk To the Wind" but you will need to listen hard to detect them and close inspection of the vinyl reveals no obvious cause so I can only assume a speck of dust caught in the grooves through decades of upright storage. In summary, stunning audio quality!! Comes with original very good plus (VG+) condition poly-lined "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS" outer sleeve with no edge splits, barely and age discolouration, and just a little mild creasing in the corners. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.
So hard to find these KIng Crimson 1969 UK 1st pressings now, especially in such beautiful condition as this - this copy merits pride of place in any vinyl collection.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
