KESTREL "KESTREL" 1975 LP Cube HIFLY 19 – UK Very Rare – "Mellotron"
An excellent addition to any rock music collection: the 1975 UK stereo release by Cube Records, catalogue number HIFLY 19, Kestrel’s self-titled album was the band’s only release and not a commercial success with very few albums selling, so original copies are now rarely available. It enjoys cult interest chiefly because it features the unique sounds of the Mellotron electro-mechanical keyboard – the final track August Carol (7minutes-18seconds) is judged one of the greatest Mellotron performances ever recorded.
Originally from Newcastle, this quintet included talented singing and guitar playing – Dave Black (guitar+vocals), John Cook (keyboards+synthesizer+Mellotron, vocals), Tom Knowles (vocals), Fenwick Moir (bass), David Whittaker (drums+percussion). Tracks: The Acrobat, Wind Cloud, I Believe in You, Last Request, In the War, Take It Away, End of the Affair, August Carol.
The disc has no visible marks. There is the VERY faintest trace of a spindle mark on each label indicating that it has been played, but probably only once ! We have not played it so this is probably as near mint as you could hope to get. The matt sleeve has light storage scuffs/creasing, record impress, and tiny dirt spots.
