Description
Kenny Dorham – The Arrival Of (Jaro International, JAS – 8007, stereo)
With only 8 albums released on Jaro International from 1959 to 1961, originally in mono, it’s impossible to tell which were also released in stereo, so the exact date of this release is unknown One thing for certain – this is not a reissue.
Condition:
Vinyl: VG++ w/ few clicks here and there, nothing offensive or on the way of music. A few extra clicks (just 3) on I’m an Old Cowhand due to what looks like pressing defect.
Cover: Vg or better. Very so slight ring wear on front, semi-gloss cover is intact but starts to pill off on the top right corner. creases at top right and lower left that someone tried Cleaning up.( Pictures show) Also, pinch hole on the back that someone tried to fix, not perfect but not offensive either; the original hole wasn’t all the way to the front, so no hole on the company insert. Spine is totally readable. Very so slight mildew smell.

(I’m trying to find words to describe it, and failing. Bottom line here – Kenny Dorham retired from the lineup led by Max Roach and was looking for a bandmates to go solo. When his original idea teaming up w/ Jimmy Heath didn’t materialize, Dorham recruited Charlie Davis, Steve Kuhn, whom he met at a jazz scholl in Massachusetts; Butch Warren and Buddy Enlow. However Steve Kuhn didn’t show up at the studio and was replaced by Tommy Flanagan. The combination of Dorham-Davis works beautifully here, Dorham is very melodic, warm and engaging.)
