Description

Scarce vintage jazz LP featuring KENNY BURRELL on the BLUE NOTE label, first issued in 1958.

Title is “Blue Lights – Volume 2."  Monaural pressing, catalog number is BLP 1597.

Record is thick vinyl, does not have deep groove.

Label address on both sides is "BLUE NOTE RECORDS * 47 WEST 63rd * NYC.”  Does not have "R" registry symbol.

Matrix number is hand-etched, and “RVG” is machine-stamped in trailoff vinyl, with "ear" symbol on both sides.  Jacket states "For Complete Catalog Write to BLUE NOTE RECORDS,   47 West 63rd St.,  New York 23" on reverse at bottom.

Personnel consists of the following:  Louis Smith – trumpet;  Junior Cook or Tina Brooks – tenor sax;  Kenny Burrell – guitar;  Duke Jordan or Bobby Timmons – piano;  Sam Jones – bass;  and Art Blakey – drums.

Side 1:

  • Rock Salt  (Burrell)
  • The Man I Love  (Gershwin)

Side 2:

  • Chuckin'  (Sam Jones)
  • Phinup!  (Burrell)

Jacket:   Jacket is in fairly nice shape, with clean bright artwork, nice seams, no writing or stickers.  There is some wear at the corners, and the reverse displays several moisture stains.

Vinyl:  Vinyl is nice VG+, with nearly full original gloss.  There are several light hairline scuffs on each side that do not affect the playing except for a few soft tics in a few places.  No serious problems, and virtually no wear.  Fidelity is excellent.  This is a fine playing copy of this hard-to-find early Blue Note gem.
