Description

Artist or Band: KENNY BURRELL

Album Title: KENNY BURRELL – Original PRESTIGE LP 7088

Recorded by:  Van Gelder, supervision Bob  Weinstock

General Artist/Album Info: A member of a musical family, Kenny Burrell began playing guitar at the age of 12. In 1951, while studying music at Wayne State University, he worked for a month with Dizzy Gillespie's sextet, making his recording debut. After graduating in 1955, he toured with Oscar Peterson, and then moved to New York in 1956.

He soon began performing and recording with many famous players, and established his reputation as an outstanding guitarist. As well as making between 30 and 40 LPs as a leader, he has played as a sideman on about 200 albums, recording in many styles under such leaders as John Coltrane, Gil Evans, Stan Getz, Billie Holiday, Milt Jackson, Quincy Jones, Thad Jones, Yusef Lateef, Hubert Laws, Herbie Mann, Sonny Rollins, Lalo Schifrin, Jimmy Smith, and Stanley Turrentine

This LP is one of his very first albums and dates from 1957. It rarely turns up nowadays and is in very collectable condition. Except for a small name writing at the backside (see scan) the cover with its laminated front is in nice shape still. It has a tiny bit of greyish discoloration on the back and a little fraying on the upper spine. Otherwise the seams and spine are completely undamaged and fully intact. The cover grades as EX according to the Record Collector grading scale.

The same can be said about the very clean RECORD. The vinyl is still very shiny and keeping its full lustre. Even under strong light there are practically no hairlines visible.  Around the center hole of the labels there are very few spindle marks. I have played the album through completely and it plays a strong EX with practically no backround noise at all.
