DESCRIPTION

Kate Bush - “The Kick Inside” EMI America Records  SW-17003 (Stereo) from 1978. Hard to find Original Translucent Vinyl reissue Edition Progressive / Alternative / Synth Pop Rock debut album from Kate Bush. Backing players include Morris Pert, Stuart Elliott, David Paton, Ian Bairnson, Duncan Mackay, Barry de Souza, Bruce Lynch, Paul Keogh, Alan Parker, Andrew Powell, Alan Skidmore and Paddy Bush. In the Original “Red Stockings / Wooden Box” Cover with NO Cutouts, promo markings or Barcode.
This is a reissue of Harvest Records SW-11761 from earlier in the same year as noted in the lower right corner of the front cover. However, this particular copy is different than any other that I have been able to identify online as it is pressed on Black Vinyl that is a Translucent Brownish when held before a bright light - I think it is probably an Audiophile type vinyl like Quiex II or possibly KC 569 Blend Premium Virgin Vinyl. It is not marked as a Promo but I understand that many record companies during this era would make small initial runs on Audiophile Vinyl that were sent to Radio Stations so I think that might be what this is. It is a Los Angles pressing in any case as indicated by the Matrix / Vinyl Runout markings which read:

Matrix / Runout (Runout Both Sides, Stamped): “✲”, "MASTERED BY CAPITOL”, “2" Matrix / Runout (Side A, Runout, Etched): SW-1-17003 G10. Matrix / Runout (Side B, Runout, Etched): SW-2-17003 G9.

CONDITION

The Sleeve is in nice shape. There is some slight shelf wear and corner softening/wear. Super solid with no splits, stains, tears, cutouts, writing, etc. and would rate at least VG+. The Vinyl is in clean Glossy condition looking lightly played. If you look closely you can spot a few light scuffs and hairlines but still pretty close to NEW condition. At least VG+ visually and probably EX and plays pretty much perfectly Near Mint all through. The labels show a few light spindle trails, a name written on side one and a price tag on side two. Still at least VG+ or better.

TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If I provide Play Grades it is done as a courtesy but I only guarantee the Visual Grade. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding. I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less!
