Up for auction is one of the best kept secrets of Austrian Folk and Psychedelic Rock history, an excellent (VG++) copy of KAPLAN MANFRED SCHWARZ’ insane debut LP from 1971. Wild fuzz guitars (played by a young, uncredited Georg Danzer), hypnotic church organs, druggy choruses, harsh Viennese dialect singing and an overall subversive message by a young priest. Just a short spell after “Lieder zum Nachdenken” was released Manfred Schwarz would get excommunicated by the Roman Catholic Church. Produced by legendary Gerhard Bronner this demented masterpiece certainly failed to reach a broader audience and soon faded into total obscurity. As the story goes, the record was only available in stores for a few months and then withdrawn from circulation by record company Ariola. Still uncomped and overlooked, this is an obscure milestone of late-60s/early 70s Underground music: 12 beautiful, imaginative Godly Groove/Protest Folk/Psych Rock tunes that are up there with the best of early Austro-Pop und Progressive Rock releases. File next to: W. Ambros, Georg Danzer, Eela Craig, Freak-Out, Gipsy Love, Golem, Klockwerk Orange, Lazarus, The Lost Generation, Madcaps, The Malformation, Milestones, Novak's Kapelle, One Family, Paternoster, Schmetterlinge and Zakarrias.
