U.K. 1967 ORIGINAL MONO FONTANA LABEL ALBUM (Cat.No.TL 5448) "TANGERINE DREAM" BY KALEIDOSCOPE
This album is the debut album by the U.K. group KALEIDOSCOPE, not any relation to the U.S. group of the same name.
This is a rare and sought-after psychedelic classic.The vinyl is in "EX-minus" condition.I have play-graded as well as visually graded the record.There is some slight surface noise at the very start of each side, but this is very soon replaced by the crystally clear sound of the group's wonderful harmonies and instruments.The vinyl surface looks fine, retaining it's almost as-new sheen.With just one or two marks.Side 1 has a slight scuff across the first three tracks-barely visable and not audible.Also there is a tiny pressing imperfection towards the end of "PLEASE EXCUSE MY FACE", but this is not audible.Side 2 has a very minor blemish at the start of the opening track: "(FURTHER REFLECTIONS) IN THE ROOM OF PERCUSSION". These are only detectable under intense spotlighting.Superficially the vinyl surface looks perfect.You really have to spend time looking in all light to see any imperfections on it. It's a lovely, heavy piece of vinyl, made by Philips in the U.K.Both matt black Fontana labels with silver writing (see pix) are in perfect condition.There is barely a spindle mark on them.Just one or two very light ones per side.The record is housed in it's original paper and poly-lined inner sleeve.This though yellowed is intact.
The matt, flip-over cover is in "EX" condition.There is no ring wear.No tearing. No damage at all, except some very minor creasing on the front from the middle of the spine, near the top, across the orange explosion of a title, and in the very bottom right hand corner.Otherwise it's remarkably intact for it's age.The colours are as bright and unfaded by time.The group's youthful faces standing reflected in front of their baco-foil backdrop are as they were in 1967.The white buff reverse has slightly yellowed with time.This too is intact.Some minor creasing along the flip-over spine, but nothing too serious.There's only some colourful, nonesensical sleevenotes (in black) by frontman, PETER DALTREY.Think he must've been completely high when he wrote them.There is one small stain towards the top on this reverse side of the sleeve, but it hardly notices.
KALEIDOSCOPE didn't really have much success with their recordings, despite the high quality of them.Their follow-up to this LP ("FAINTLY BLOWING" in 1969) is as rare as this one.Even when the group tried to re-invent themselves as a prog.band on that most prog. of all labels, Vertigo, as FAIRFIELD PARLOUR in 1970 with "FROM HOME TO HOME" they failed to get much attention.Obviously some people took notice for the German group TANGERINE DREAM even named themselves after this special record.A real collector's item.
