JOHN WALDEN'S BLUES COMBINE
John 'Whiteboy' Walden began playing harmonica from the age of 8. He quit school to turn professional in 1965 and became one of the most highly-respected harmonica players in Europe. He was a master of both the 10-hole diatonic chromatic harmonicas, especially when it came to blues.
John toured all over the world with blues greats such as: Rory Gallagher, Lightning Hopkins, The Madison Blues Band, Madeline Bell, Eva Jones and many others.
As early as 1968-69, he was playing in Paris with his group the John Walden Workshop. It was during this period that he made a number of professionally produced recordings at ‘Sound Organization Recording Studios’ in London with his band.
Whereas contemporary British R&B bands such as The Yardbirds, Downliners Sect & The Pretty Things all enjoyed reasonably successful recording careers, none of John Walden’s bands were ever signed to a label.
Sadly John passed away earlier this year but these recordings are a testament to his talent and love of the Blues and represent the true heart and spirit of 1960’s British R&B.
This 2-sided 7” EMIDISC acetate dates from c.1968/9 contains 2 unreleased tracks: 'Leaving Me' & 'Love The Destroyer'.
The disc is housed within its original 'Sound Organization' studio polythene bag.
We have included excerpts from both tracks on the disc on the player below for you to hear.
CONDITION
Disc: VERY GOOD
The disc is clean & lies flat and there is no mold or any cracked, chipped or missing lacquer on either side. There are some light scuffs and hairlines but nothing major.
As you can hear from the clips some light background is audible on the run-ins & quieter passages but overall the sound quality is high and is undistorted with no skips or repeats. The sound-clips on the player were recorded flat and unfiltered directly from this disc.
