This album is a unique areticle in that it clearly shows John Mayall's musical progression over a period of five years; it is also a collection of past single releases and in just 11 selections the changing patterns of the band musicians are brightly outlined and highlight the work of Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton, Roger Dean, Aynsley Dunbar, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, Keef Hartley, Dick Heckstall-Smith, John McVie, and Mick Taylor, some of whom incidentally had not been featured on album before. The photographic montage on the inner liner serves to further illustrate this dary of many bands, aptly christened "Looking Back." -Mike Vernon, May 1968
