Description
This is the John Lennon solo single "Mother" / "Why". The picture sleeve for this single is very rare. It is typical for sleeves of this age to have been abused, but this is one of the best examples I have seen. I am not a professional record grader and one person's grade can be very different from another. My estimation is that this single is from VG+ to near mint. There is a staple hole in the top left corner of the sleeve, but it does not really detract from the sleeve. I have included a close up photo of it. You are probably aware that sometimes staple was used to prevent removal of the record in the store.
The sleeve does have some bending at the very top of the sleeve. There isn't any fraying of the paper and there are no tears or rips in the sleeve. I have used large photos.
I have tested the single on a Technics turntable with an Ortofon cartridge. While the single has some light surface marks and it played very clean. See the pictures for the condition of the labels. There is a "bell sound" stamp in the dead wax runout grooves.
This is from his first solo album after the Beatles and is very hard to find with a picture sleeve in any condition. Even with its imperfections, this is an excellent find.
When I ship the record, I will put the record in a separate generic sleeve to protect the picture sleeve. Please let me know if you have questions.
