Description

John Coltrane     Giant Steps   Atlantic 1311  mono  with the very hard to find black label  label deep groove

John Coltrane (ts) Tommy Flanagan, Wynton Kelly (piano), Paul Chambers (b), Jimmy Cobb, Art Taylor (d)    Recorded 1959

Label is black and silver and deep groove on both sides.  "AT" and "11637-A and 11637-B" in the runouts.  "157 West 57 Street, New York 19, New York" address on cover. Cover is heavy and laminated.

Record plays VG+, VG++ on the loud passages.  There's a light scratch on the tune "Giant Steps" that ticks below the level of the music from about halfway through until near the end of the tune. Surface noise audible on quiet passages. Record looks VG++. Some light scuffs and marks.  Vinyl looks little played.   No heavy scratches.

Cover is VG+.

Front cover looks very nice, strong VG++.  It's bright and glossy with very light wear. Very tiny piece of the laminate missing at the spine.  Tiny spots of heavy wear at the corners. Back has moderate wear and some staining.  Spine is bright and readable.  Seams intact, tight and bright.  No writing.
