Description

I am downsizing my Jazz collection and will be selling a number of my LP's over the next couple of weeks. Up for auction is a stereo repressing, Impulse Records, John Coltrane, "A Love Supreme" produced in 1968. I am correcting a mistake in which I thought this was a first pressing. The dead wax markings on this record are identical to that of a first stereo pressing, however the black labels with the orange rim identifies this as a later pressing done in 1968. This most likely means that the original Van Gelder metal stampers were used to make this later pressing, which is meaningful if you are chasing the sound as originally crafted by Rudy Van Gelder. Recording and lacquers cut by Rudy Van Gelder as shown by his name being in the dead wax. My main goal was to collect Near Mint versions of original vinyl for my jazz collection, I wanted the same for the outer and inner sleeves as well, but the main priority was to to get the best quality vinyl as possible for the best audio quality, and also to get the best versions.  As far as condition goes, the outer sleeve is in Excellent condition, I would have liked to call it Near Mint, but there are two very small spots where the clear plastic has delaminated on the front of the cover (this is a glossy laminated cover) otherwise the cover looks NM. I am going to give a VG+ rating for the inner sleeve, it's actually really nice, but there is some of the typical tanning of the white paper due to high acid paper being used, and there are 2" slits on two of the edges . Please see the pictures to see what I am talking about. The vinyl itself is in beautiful near mint condition, no marks or flaws of any kind, and the labels are also near mint. The record plays with near mint quality as well, no sonic issues of any kind. It's rare to see a highly desirable example of this 57 year old record with this kind of quality. The dead wax shows the inscriptions consistent with what is called out by Discogs for the 1968 repressing with STEREO AS-77-A VAN GELDER LW on side 1 and STEREO AS-77-B VAN GELDER LW on side 2 in the deadwax. I will only sell to the continental United States, no international shipping. I will send via US Postal Service Media Mail. No reserve, just a very reasonable starting bid. I am reducing the price significantly since this is not the true first pressing, however if you are wanting to get a Near Mint true Van Gelder production of this record you might want to check it out.
