HO-7P-0790 private press for Wittenberg Ohio College bookstore. According to discography, this is Lem Winchesters first recorded piece catapulting him to the national spotlight. He later played the Newport Jazz Festival, recorded for Prestige and New Jazz before his life was cut short a few short years later. RARE RARE RARE!

But John’s agent father did send one as audition material to Norman Granz, organizer of the Newport Jazz Festival. We could only smile at his enterprise. LP name: The John Chowning Collegiates featuring Lem Winchester on vibraharp, George Lindamood on piano, John Chowning on drums and Dave Arnold on bass.
Jacket: VG-VG+ Printed slick on front and back are seperated from cardboard jacket from inadequate glue job, seams are held together with blue tapelike material that looks original or applied long ago. Some light foxing and a slight tear or two.
Vinyl: VG+ solid, looks very shiny and clean and has the normal, very light pops and hiss in light passages. Some light spindle marks. Quite a nice sounding recording, may play much better than VG+ with a good cleaning and on professional equipment.
