Description

Here’s a test pressing of an unreleased 1973 LP by the great singer Joanie Sommers. Evidently it was meant to be released on Capitol (the labels match other Capitol tests from the same era), but was scrapped for some reason. It’s beautifully produced with a few originals and a bunch of nicely selected covers. I’m just guessing at a few of the titles, but here are a few of the highlights below. Note that the record is mastered in stereo, but my audio clips below are in mono due to a frustrating technical problem with my setup. Listen below:

Listen to Let Me Be the One (You Run To)

Listen to Where Do the Children Play

Listen to You’re Leaving Me

Listen to Who Were You?

Listen to I Never Meant to Hurt You

The disc is in VG+ condition with some light sleeve wear. Side 1 Matrix reads: 1-11178-F-1. The disc comes from  the collection of an industry executive who would have had access to such unreleased material, but still it’s strange that there’s nothing documented about the record anywhere. There’s no cue sheet, but this seems to be the tracklist in order:

Side 1:

Who Were You?

You’re Leaving Me

I Never Meant to Hurt You (Laura Nyro)

Mary C. Brown and the Hollywood Sign (Dory Previn)

Side 2:

Together Alone (Melanie)

Let Me Be the One (You Run To) (The Carpenters)

Steppin’ Out

What Can I Give You (Margo Guryan)

Where Do the Children Play (Cat Stevens)
