Description
You are bidding on a rare Blue Note album. This is Volume 1 of 'The Incredible Jimmy Smith at Club 'Baby Grand' Blue Note 1528. It is an orignal West 63rd Deep Groove pressing, with 'RVG' (the initials of the engineer of Rudy Van Gelder) in the dead wax. Blue Note was eventually bought by Liberty, who repressed alot of their albums. All original Blue Note pressings bear the 'West 63rd' address on the label, and these are generally better quality and certainly more valuable. In addition, this is a Deep Groove pressing, which gives this live recording a much fuller, more prescient sound. Great album, featuring a youthful Jimmy Smith at the organ, accompanied by Donald Bailey on the drums, and Thornel Schwartz on guitar. Tough, energetic, organ lead jazz, by one of the pioneers and best exponents of the genre. This original pressing rarely comes up, and certainly not in this condition. Both vinyl and cover are NM.
