RECORD GRADING OVERVIEW Please Read
Visual Grading System combined with Play-Grading System
Records are Visually Graded then partially Play-Tested on both sides to confirm Audio Quality. If there is an area of the record I feel requires testing (scuff or scratch), I will do that as well. On occasion, I will Play-Test on entire record. That will be noted in condition.
Visual Grading Guidelines for Used Records
MINT (M) Record and Cover Absolutely perfect in every way. Records that have been opened are rarely, if ever, Graded Mint.
NEAR MINT (NM) Record and Cover Looks like they just came from a retail store, and were opened for the first time.
EXCELENT (EX) An EBAY Grade, undefined by Goldmine Standard or EBAY. I assume (VG++ = EX). Record No more than one or two surface scuffs per side. Record might have some hairline scratches, visible in high-light sources like direct sunlight, but not covered in them. Common from leaving records out of the jacket or stacking on other LPs. None of these should affect Audio Quality. Cover Should have only very minor signs of wear, on edges or corners.
VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)
Record Show more signs of wear than Excellent Graded Records. Including scuffs, surface scratches and hairline cracking. Marks around the center hole, very light ring wear. Slight warps that don't affect the sound are OK. Label discoloration might be present. None of these should affect Play Quality. Cover Might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable location. It might have a very faint start of a record ring, side and corner scuffs, maybe a miner scuff on the body of the cover.
VERY GOOD (VG) Record Might lack some gloss found on factory-fresh records. They do not skip, but they may have scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. When played they could have surface noise and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song intro and ending. Cover Might have some degree of ring wear, obvious but not overwhelming. Writing on the record or cover, seam-splitting might be present. Damage will be more obvious on body and sides of the cover. In general, they look decent enough, function, and do not fall apart.
GOOD PLUS (G+) (We avoid selling Good (G+) rated records unless it is Highly Collectible.)
GOOD (G) (We avoid selling a (G) rated record unless it is Highly Collectible.
