Description
About This Record. This is the extremely rare UK first press of Jethro Tull's first Album. Island ILP 985. The Cover says stereo, but the LP is in mono. I have never seen a cover that says mono. I acquired this in the late 1970's, and it took me a few years to figure out that why it sounded so different and cool was that it was a mono copy in stereo (sheep's) clothing. I bet you could never find a nicer copy of this stealth record! I'm not sure if this ever came out in a mono cover or not.
Cover Condition. The cover is a nice M-. No tape or writing; no seam splits or wear except for a little bit on bottom right corner. There are a couple of slight creases (more like lines; the cover has not been bent or otherwise abused) that are slightly noticeable on the front cover, which is why I grade this a M- (near mint). This would be an EX+ on the continent. The cover is a stereo cover, not a mono cover. I don't know if Mono covers exist.
Vinyl Condition. I do NOT use EX. The vinyl is M-; just a mark or two from careful play. This is the rare and coveted mono version of the UK LP. Sounds simply incredible! The record weighs 163 grams (without the cover or the innersleeve!! The heaviest of any record I have encountered pre-1970! The labels are mint. I would hate to see this go, so please do not bid on it. Thank you!
Grading Vinyl. I use modified Goldmine grading standards. Mint/NM/VG+/VG/VG-/G+/G. On rare occasions I may use VG++. I DO NOT use the EX grade! My VG+ is EX to EX+, and my VG is EX-. I grade conservatively; look at my feedback! I play grade my vinyl with an MC Ruby 3 Micro Benz cartridge. I do not alter the records, covers, or labels with pens, tape, glue or other stuff. When I notice such damage, I point it out in detail!
