Artist & Title: Jethro Tull – Stand Up

Stand Up Very rare 1969 UK 1st pressing 10-track vinyl LP with pop-up woodcut gatefold sleeve, pink labels with orange and black bull’s-eye logo. The vinyl has ILPS+9103+A/B matrix numbers in the run-out. This copy is complete with the original inner sleeve. Highly desirable for its 1st press matrix and labels, and hard enough to find in any condition, this LP is in Excellent condition and the cover is also in Excellent condition. And as these genuine good quality first pressings come up so infrequently this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to add this rarity to your collection at an extremely advantageous price.

Catalogue Number: ILPS STEREO 9103

Release date: 01 Aug 1969

Overall Grade: EX/EX (LP/Cover)

Matrix/Runout: (Side1) ILPS+9103+A  (Side2) ILPS+9103+B

This is the original form of the release, with orange and black bull’s eye on a pink label, gatefold sleeve with pop-up of the band, ILPS+9103+A/B matrix numbers stamped in the runout and NO Stereo on the spine.

If any or all of these features is missing then it is not a genuine first pressing – this one has them all.

Please note that second and third pressings have a black or white i logo instead of the bull’s eye on this first pressing.

This very rare, FIRST PRESSING, Jethro Tull LP from the formative years of the band’s career is hardly ever offered for sale in ANY condition.

This is the extremely rare real thing: a GENUINE first UK pressing. The record is in Excellent condition with just one light hairline mark on side two, that is completely inaudible, and plays perfectly, And the sleeve is also in Excellent condition, without any tears, creases, writing, removed stickers or other noticeable damage only the usual signs of 43 years of age. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1969 not reprints or fakes. The LP is the original first press stereo LP, which was only played on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.

THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THIS UNIQUE ALBUM EVER OFFERED FOR SALE IN RECENT TIMES

Stand Up is the second album by Jethro Tull. Before this album, the band's original guitarist Mick Abrahams resigned because of musical differences with Ian Anderson; Abrahams wanted to stay with the blues-rock sound of This Was, while Anderson wished to branch out into other musical forms. Overall, however, the album does remain more broadly in the style of blues rock than future Jethro Tull albums.
Stand Up represents the first album project on which Anderson was in full control of the music and lyrics. It also marks the first appearance of guitarist Martin Barre, who appeared on every Jethro Tull album from this point on. The album goes in a different direction from Ian Anderson's earlier work, revealing influences from Celtic, folk, and classical music. In particular, the song "Fat Man" showed an interest in unusual instrumentation, as Ian Anderson played mandolin, one of the first times the instrument had been used by a rock band. The instrumental "Bourée" (one of Jethro Tull's better-known songs) is a jazzy re-working of "Bourrée in E minor" by J.S. Bach.
The album reached No. 1 on the British charts. The gatefold album cover, in a woodcut style designed by artist James Grashow, originally opened up like a children's pop-up book, so that a cut-out of the band's personnel stood up — evoking the album's title. Stand Up won New Musical Express's award for best album artwork in 1969.
Ian Anderson has said that the melody and solo in "We Used to Know" were used by the Eagles in "Hotel California" as a type of tribute. The Eagles had opened for Jethro Tull at one time.

This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this piece of rock history.
