Jethro Tull began as a psychedelic-blues quartet during the late 60s and gained some attention thanks to singer-flautist Ian Anderson's stage antics. In 1969 Tull released 'Stand Up' on the Island Records label (ILPS 9103) and it made it to Number #1 on the UK charts, a considerable achievement in the 60's for a relatively new band. 'Stand Up' not only had some outstanding songs, but also had spectacular packaging - a gatefold sleeve with caricatures of the group which actually stand up when the sleeve is opened. Produced by Terry Ellis and Ian Anderson, the songs were a perfect blend of riff-rock, English Folk, and a new "progressive" style that stood out immediately to critics and fans alike. It contained several potent rockers and the group's trademark rendition of JS Bach's "Bouree". It is in my humble opinion, one of their most beautiful and memorable albums. The copy I am offering is technically a 4th "Pink" Island variation. Though as far as the audio is concerned it's right up there with the very 1st UK pressing from 1969. One of the visual details to look for as an indicator of dynamic and detailed audio are the labels. It appears that if the Island labels are fully and heavily "textured" (as opposed to being smooth to the touch) the playback is significantly better. Often the audio has a "louder" mix with more obvious separation in the instruments, especially the bass. These textured label variations are also much rarer and especially when they are in Near Mint condition. If you love this album, then this is a pressing that is highly recommended
Condition of Lp Gatefold Jacket: Near Mint....one of the best copies I've ever seen. Just some minimal edge wear and a bit of sticker residue on the back. Spine is near-perfect, inner gatefold is exceptionally clean displaying the "Pop-Ups" which are in superb working order.
Condition of Original Inner-Sleeve: Very Good....some age wear as can be expected but the baby blue color is still vivid. A new, high-quality liner will be provided to house the precious record.
Condition of Lp Record: Near Mint...absolutely beautiful...almost flawless. One can only see some fine hairlines under strong light. The textured labels are near-perfect...the vinyl has significant weight (probably at least 165g to 180g) ...a very rare specimen especially in this condition.
Matrix numbers: Side 1 ILPS + 9103 + A2 Side 2 ILPS + 9103 + B2 Both are machine stamped.
