Background Information

I am currently in the process of shifting a vast collection of stock which largely derives from a Record Shop which closed its doors in the early 1980s.  The stock spans a period from the early 1960s through to the early 80s with the bulk dating from the 1970s.  There are large quantities of Progressive Rock, R & B and Soul and Modern Classical.  Most of the items have sustained a single play (clearly standard practice to check for flaws upon receipt of new records back-in-the-day) however, some are obviously UNPLAYED.  The bulk of what I’m currently selling comes from this source and I’d guess it will be years before I exhaust it!

UNSOLD SHOP STOCK Simply stunning, new looking 1971 GRUNT U.S.A. pressing of Jefferson Airplane’s ‘Bark’ L.P. (Catalogue Reference: GRUNT FTR-1001).  I genuinely don’t believe there are going to be many copies left out there in better condition than this.  The package is so immaculate it could almost pass for an authentic re-issue (but it isn’t – it comes from stock which was never sold).  This consists of the L.P. stored in thick, brown paper inner sleeve, a gatefold lyric sheet/poster stored inside a thick card sleeve (decent American sleeve) and this is then contained within a paper ‘bag’ with a large personnel/tracklisting sticker on the rear.   I have a strong suspicion that the vinyl has never been played however, it has those customary ‘shadows’ that seem to be on virtually all American 70s pressing.  It is a very thin (almost Dynaflex thin – but too early) pressing and is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition.  As noted above the vinyl is stored within a thick paper inner sleeve and this is pretty immaculate.  You’d expect holes in the seams where the vinyl rubs up against but there aren’t any however, there is an inch tear around the central hole on one side.  The actual L.P. sleeve is in NEAR MINT condition.  The outer ‘bag’ and lyric poster are in EXCELLENT+ condition.  A stunning looking copy of something that inevitably looks tatty (more condition details below).

Condition

L.P. Cover, Paper Inner Sleeve, Gatefold Lyric Sheet/Poster & Paper Bag

It is the packaging that really makes this copy special (not saying that the vinyl isn’t nice) because the packaging is virtually always tatty after 40 years+ of handling.  The thick L.P. cover is in NEAR MINT condition with the only visible flaw being a knock to the bottom left-hand corner.  There is an inch tear around the central hole on one side of the thick, brown paper inner sleeve but it is otherwise immaculate.  As noted above you expect holes in the edges where the vinyl rubs against but clearly this copy hasn’t been handled much.  The gatefold lyric sheet/poster has not been handled much and has no tears and is conservatively graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition.  There are a couple of light bends around the outer edges (in places) but these haven’t actually resulted in creases as such (if that makes sense).  The outer brown paper ‘bag’ looks like NEW in many respects.  I don’t believe there has been any discolouration or staining and there are only creases where you’d expect to find creases.  Normally these look dark and grubby from handling.  There is a large transparent sticker on the rear containing personnel and tracklisting details and there has been a minimal amount of print loss which is why I conservatively grade the outer ‘bag’ as being in EXCELLENT+ condition.  It is so exposed that it is surprising more print hasn’t been lost.  There are no holes or tears in this outer ‘bag’.  As a package it is pretty stunning and I don’t believe there will be many better overall quality packages out there.

Vinyl

The vinyl is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition.  As noted above I’d be surprised if it had seen play.  It is quite thin (think Dynaflex) and has the customary ‘shadow’ effect on the vinyl which you typically see on American 70s pressings.  The latter is nothing to worry about but prevents me grading any higher than EXCELLENT+.

Concluding Remarks

I think it is highly questionable that you’ll be able to locate a superior copy.  There is so much to this package which can be damaged, go missing and it is pretty obvious that this copy was never sold.  Please check my other auctions for further items in similarly immaculate condition from the same source.  Save me as a Favourite Seller as there is plenty more good stuff where this came from!

General Conditions & Information

I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years now and regard myself as a conservative grader.  I know from experience that there is nothing worse than buying an item which is described with superlatives only for it to arrive and look like it has been scrapped along the floor (!).  As a rule I don’t submit anything to auction which I wouldn’t be happy receiving myself.  I endeavour to be accurate with my grading and all items are graded under an intense light.  Please take a look through my feedback as I’d like to think it speaks for itself.

Returns Policy

If you are not entirely happy with your purchase then please contact me within 7 days of receipt.  The buyer is expected to meet the return postage costs.

Payment Methods

Domestic buyers can pay via Cheque, PayPal or Postal Order.  Overseas buyers are always welcome and are required to pay via PayPal.  Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end unless otherwise agreed.

Postage Costs

I have had to bring my service in-line with changes to Royal Mail Terms and Conditions effective of April 2013.  Previously items sent via standard post were automatically covered up to the value of £46.00 however, standard postage now only covers items up to the value of £20.00.  Items with an opening value >£20.00 will include domestic Signed For postage costs automatically.  Items with an opening value <=£20.00 and which complete with a value <=£20.00 will continue to be dispatched via standard post unless otherwise agreed (i.e. the buyer indicates a preference otherwise).  Items which have an opening value <=£20.00 but whose final value is >£20.00 will be subject to enhanced postage costs in order to cover the extra insurance which is required.  I hope this is as straightforward as I can make it?  Ultimately, please don’t make payment until you’ve received an invoice from me and if you aren’t happy with the invoice you receive then I’m always open to discussion.  Buyers should be aware that both Ebay and PayPal take a % of postage charges (i.e. they are higher than I’d ideally want them to be).

Multiple purchases will be subject to consolidated postage costs.  I will contact you at the end of the auction to confirm these costs.

Proof of postage is always obtained and retained.

Overseas Buyers

As noted above Overseas buyers are welcome.  If you want me to investigate potential postage costs in advance of the auction’s end then please feel free to contact me.
