"Best known for the platinum-selling Oxygene (1976) and Equinoxe (1978), French composer Jean-Michel Jarre began his career as a devotee of musique concrete and library music. Jarre's first solo LP – 1972's Deserted Palace – was recorded at the storied electro-acoustic music studio Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM) in Paris.Using only sounds from GRM's extensive archives and two keyboards (EMS VCS3 synthesizer and Farfisa organ), Deserted Palace reveals a far more experimental side of the acclaimed space music pioneer. Jarre's exploratory inclinations are on full display with some tracks bearing the influence of GRM-founder Pierre Schaeffer, while other tracks offer moments that could almost be mistaken for early Residents."
