Description
Rare DEXTER GORDON, "A Swingin' Affair" Blue Note 4133 LP, with original blue note insert sleeve. Blue Note Records BLP 4133 (Mono). Blue and White, New York Label with "VAN GELDER" & Ear mark in Deadwax Trailing. EX/NM. This LP came from a collection once owned by local Seattle area Jazz DJ and like nearly all of his LPs was rarely played! Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on August 29, 1962. Includes liner notes by Barbara Long. Like his other Blue Note dates of the period, Dexter Gordon's A SWINGIN' AFFAIR captures the saxophonist in his prime. Recorded a mere two days after his popular GO! with the same quartet, the album features Gordon's supple, smooth lines radiating with brilliance over the gentle finesse of Sonny Clark (piano), Butch Warren (bass) and Billy Higgins (drums). His improvisations are full of life, always with a touch of the blues, and constantly swinging. The result is a clear portrait of a jazz master in his element. Highly recommended for jazz aficionados. Really amazing album, another great find!
Side 1: Soy Califa, Don't Explain, You Stepped out of a Dream.
Side 2: The Backbone, Until the Real thing Comes Along.
Credits: Dexter Gordon Sax (Tenor), Billy Higgins (Drums), Sonny Clark (Piano), Butch Warren (Bass).
Cover has very slight wear, and small (2 inch) "KTNT Radio" written in pen on back upper right corner, and a "promotion copy"stamp on back, preventing NM grade. Record has very slight wear, otherwise it would be in Mint condition! We guarantee all of our LPs to be as described.
