Description

'Cheap Thrills' was Big Brother and The Holding Company's crowning achievement, capturing the passion and pain in singer Janis Joplin's voice at its heartrending best.  After having stunned the audience at The Monterey Pop Festival the year before, the band and producer John Simon wanted to recapture the same magic and intensity with their new album.  Joplin and 'Big Brother' recorded some tracks in the studio but Simon suggested they also do a live gig to raise the energy level a few more notches.  This was a brilliant idea, and though it's a little hard to tell which songs were the studio recorded tracks (engineered to sound live)  and which are truly "live",  the end result was a complete success.  The album topped the US chart for eight weeks in 1968 and remains one of the most memorable and enduring albums ever to be released in rock music history.

On offer here is the rare Mono (KCL 2900) version of this album.  It is sought after by fans for the different mixes and was only available for a short time during the album's initial release in 1968.  In 2012, using the Original Mono Master, RTI (Record Technology Inc.) and Sony music decided to release a limited/numbered Record Store Day edition of this undisputed classic.  These have also become quite scarce and nearly as desirable as an original '68 Mono pressing.
Condition: Brand New/Sealed (Number #0673).....there is a tear to the shrink (around the silver RTI sticker) but the surface of the gatefold jacket is not affected.
