Collector Notes

Triumph arrived in October 1980 — just six months after Off The Wall had made Michael Jackson a solo superstar — and held the group together as a creative unit at the exact moment everything was pulling them apart. Every track was produced and written by the Jacksons themselves, with no outside producers, making it one of the most genuinely self-directed major-label releases of its era.

"Can You Feel It" opens Side One with one of the most euphoric statements in pop history, paired with a landmark music video that pre-dates Thriller by three years in its cinematic ambition. "Heartbreak Hotel / This Place Hotel" on Side Two features a Michael Jackson vocal performance widely cited as among the finest of his career. The peacock painting on the back cover by Gilbert Williams — and Michael Jackson's "Peacock History" dedication to their mother Katherine — complete one of the most carefully considered album presentations in the catalog.

This copy is the Capitol Records Terre Haute, Indiana pressing, mastered by Mike Reese at The Mastering Lab, Los Angeles (TML in deadwax). Cover photography by Francesco Scavullo — the same photographer behind iconic Cosmopolitan and Vogue covers for four decades. Presented still in original shrink wrap — a genuinely rare find for a 45-year-old soul/funk title.
