Description
JUNE CHRISTY The Cool Elephant TUBBY HAYES 1965 UK Single WHITE LABEL PROMO
Here is a copy of the very rare June Christy single ‘The Cool Elephant’.Recorded in London in 1965, and released the same year, this is a white label promo copy on CBS.
Both sides were written by Don Black and Vic Lewis. Tubby Hayes played tenor sax and flute and Don Black played piano.
The recording was made to celebrate the opening of the Cool Elephant Club in London in January 1965. Partly owned by John Dankworth, the club was opened as a musicians hang-out. It was a short lived venture.
The fate of the single was not much better. It did not sell, was not released outside of the UK, and consequently is very rare, desirable and valuable. The last record I can find of it being sold was in 2013 when, on ebay, it reached £129. And that was a standard stock copy rather than a promo.
A: The Cool Elephant B: Love Is Not Just For The Young
Label: CBS Year: 1965 Country: UK
Condition: Note … This would be described as excellent except it has become slightly heat damaged on part (about 2 inches) of the outer edge, on the lead in. It’s difficult to photograph this but it is visible to the eye. Both sides of the single play OK. There is a very brief noise at the play in - before the track starts - but, once it’s under way, it is not noticeable. Please only bid if you are happy with this condition. I feel, given it is playable - and its rarity, that it is still worth owning.
Payment: Paypal
Postage and Packing: £2.00 (UK), £4.00 (Europe), £6.00 (rest of world). Please note - I charge only actual cost of postage and packing and will seek most cost effective method. I am happy to combine items and pass on any saving. Proof of Posting is obtained for every item sent but on valuable or more expensive items, you might want to consider sending it signed for or tracked, which I can organise.
Feedback: If you are happy with your item, please leave positive feedback and I will do the same. If, for any reason, you are not happy, please get in touch so I can attempt to resolve any concern.
Record Collector Grading System:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Thank you for looking at my auction. I aim to be accurate with my descriptions but, if for any reason, I have made a mistake and you are unhappy with the item, please give me the opportunity to make things right. All items are posted via standard post (unless otherwise directed) and I will obtain, as proof of postage, a Certificate of Posting. On valuable items, you might want to consider having them sent via Registered or Signed For and taking out insurance, which I can organise
