Description

Up for auction I have a UK original 1979 SOLID BLACK VINYL pressing of Joy Division's legendary debut album Unknown Pleasures released on Manchester's Factory Records in 1979. Catalogue number is FACT 10. This is one of the nicest copies I've ever offered on Ebay and I have listed/sold around 30 of them.
The textured sleeve is in generally clean shape. It grades as VG+ as it has the all too typical ringwear, common with this flimsy sleeve and some, again typical edge creasing, but no tears or splits. An above average copy of this sleeve. There is sticker residue in the top right hand corner clearly shown in the pictures but no loss of the black print which most appear to have that come up for sale.
The spine is wonderfully square and the print is perfectly clear and legible (see pic).
The earliest rounded inner sleeve shows signs of wear, creasing and discolouration so graded VG+. Again there are no tears/splits.
The vinyl is in just fantastic near mint condition, I cannot detect a single blemish on the playing surface. On playback the quieter passages are just beautiful, quiet and eery, just how it's meant to be,though it does still sound like vinyl though!!! If you want thin, soulless cd quality then buy one for £3!!! Vinyl is best, you wouldn't be reading this if you didn't know that!!!
I really cannot stress the high end quality of this item in more glowing terms. It is possibly your final vinyl upgrade of a UK Unknown Pleasures (the pressing everyone wants/needs to own). I am just doing what I always do,and be 100% honest with my description (I am a collector myself, first and foremost). The vinyl is absolutely flat as a pancake,no warping at all,as good as the day it was pressed in 1979. Very clean copies like this with the textured outer and rounded inner sleeve coupled with the near mint vinyl are becoming increasingly scarce.
Note that the vinyl DOES NOT show up reddish/purple when held up to the light. Vinyl does have the very early "This Is The Way" and "Step" and "Porky Prime Cut" etchings (taken from the track Atrocity Exhibition,a song that would appear on Joy Divisions Closer lp) on the run out indicating a very early 1979 Factory Records press. Any questions are welcomed. Thanks for looking.
I have been selling Joy Division items on ebay for a number of years now and unlike many,I do know the difference in pressings. It is confusing, but rest assured when I sell an original press it indeed is a 100% original  UK press. As I expect this stunning copy to reach a fairly high price I will only post via SPECIAL DELIVERY,fully insured to the maximum so please take this into account when my final postage rates come through, thanks. It will also be packed to the very highest standard. Thank you for viewing this beautiful copy.

Several years ago I was invited to donate rare Joy Division artefacts to the Macclesfield Museum(please see below).
JOY DIVISION ARTEFACTS SOUGHT BY MACCLESFIELD MUSEUM

Macclesfield Silk Museum is currently searching for interesting Joy Division artefacts for a proposed exhibition due to take place in May 2010. The exhibition is being curated by Jon Savage, and Peter Saville is the creative director.
The museum would like to hear from anyone who may be interested in loaning unseen photos, live recordings or footage, flyers, posters, badges or any other rare memorabilia.

RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM MINT :The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed be Mint. EXCELLENT :The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. VERY GOOD :The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. I may use a + or a - to emphasise a grading which may be inbetween a grade. I will never use a mint grading for a 2nd hand/used record for instance. Mint- will be the very highest grade. PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT,AND WILL NOT,RETRACT A BID FOR ANYONE REGARDLESS OF THE EXCUSE.THIS IS SOMETHING YOU WILL HAVE TO DO YOURSELF USING THE BID RETRACTION FORM AND EARN A BID RETRACTION STRIKE AGAINST YOURSELF.Paypal ONLY accepted for buyers outside the United Kingdom(UK).No exceptions on this, sorry.
