Description
This record came from a Texas Radio station and it is in MINT minus condition, the cover is in VG+ condition and has a small 3 inch strip of tape at the bottom right corner, on a split seam.
Here's an LP that's gathers together ten of the rarest songs from Johnny Horton in a package that was never offered for sale to the public. They were simply pressed up and released to radio stations. In fact, the songs wouldn't be available to the public in any form until nearly seven years later buried on an album.
These ten songs were recorded in a big session at the KWKH Studios (home of the Louisiana Hayride!) in Shreveport, Louisiana on January 29, 1958. On the session was Tommy Tomlinson on guitar, Tillman Franks on bass, Sonny Harville on piano and backing vocals by the Four B's.
This is a rare radio-only LP that Horton cut for the performing rights society SESAC. Like BMI and ASCAP, they collect artists royalties from radio stations and such. In the late '50s, they got a number of artists to do recordings of tunes from their publishing group, then cut records which were sent exclusively to radio, and were never sold to the public. This is one of those records and it is probably one of the rarest Johnny Horton recordings for that reason. This record includes these songs:
Side 1: Hot In The Sugar Cane Fields, Lonesome And Heartbroken, Seven Come Eleven, I Can't Forget You, Wise To The Ways Of A Woman
Side 2: Out In New Mexico, Tetched In The Head, Just Walk A Little Closer, Don't Use My Heart For A Stepping Stone, I Love You, Baby.
Again, this record is mega rare and they do not show up often, so make sure to bid today so that you do not miss out on this amazingly rare Johnny Horton LP.
I have listed this record at a ridiculously low starting bid with NO Reserve!
IMPORTANT! PLEASE NOTE: The image of the LP jacket was taken in bright sunlight and looks as though it is faded. On the contrary, it is in excellent condition and looks almost brand new except for the small taped seam at the bottom right. Also, there is NO writing anywhere or stains! The last time one close to this condition showed up in 2004 on ebay it sold for $218, so please bid with that value in mind.
