ORIGINAL ALBUM + BONUS TRACK / SOUND BY RUDY VAN. Dieses Album von Jazzsaxophonist Johnny Griffin wurde 1957 aufgenommen und veröffentlicht. Manchmal macht Glück allein den Unterschied und genau bei diesem Album ist das der Fall. Wenn Sie ein Saxofon Fan sind, ist dies genau das Richtige für Sie – nicht ein, nicht zwei, nein drei „rotzige“ Tenorsaxofone, plus eine brennende Trompete sowie der legendäre Art Blakey dahinter an den Drums. Drei Tenöre? Wie kam es dazu? Reiner Zufall. Johnny Griffin, damals ein junger, neuer superschneller Saxofonist, war 1957 auf dem Weg um im Rudy Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey aufzunehmen, als er auf John Coltrane stieß. “Komm mit,” schlug Griffin vor. “Klar,” antwortete Coltrane. Ein Glücksfall. Das Resultat ist das passend betitelte “A Blowin’ Session”. Coltrane und Griffin sind die Stars, die lange, komplexe Passagen im höllischen Tempo blasen. Trompeter Lee Morgan hält bei seinen eigenen aufregenden Soli das Tempo. Das dritte Tenor, von Hank Mobley, hat eine etwas anderen Sound - definitiv Bop, aber etwas mehr relaxt und bluesig.
