Ever seen this one?  Neither have we!  Yet here it is - a one-sided 1970 LP of Johnny Cash narrating Private John G. Burnett’s 1890 eyewitness account of the Trail of Tears, the tragic 1838-39 removal of the Cherokees from their Smokey Mountain home and their painful journey west.  This LP was produced by the Nashville based Historic Landmarks Association for use in schools and libraries and was never made commercially available.  Chances are excellent that no more than a few hundred copies at most were ever produced for its very limited distribution, and 36 years later, how many can there be in circulation?  Do not delay - a Cash collectible of this level (and one that beautifully illustrates his interest in history and his compassion for the downtrodden) will go quickly!  Thanks for looking, and good luck!

 

The cover of this LP is very good due to a seam split that runs the entirety of the bottom, plus writing, ring wear, some spots of discoloration, a partially torn-off sticker on the front, and a library card pocket on the back.  It comes with a typewritten sheet concerning the contents of the LP on one side and explaining the goals of the Historic Landmarks Association on the other, plus a mimeographed sheet from Lucille Corkran (Social Studies Supervisor of Nashville’s public school system at the time of the LP’s release) providing a brief description of the LP’s contents.  The LP itself is very good plus.
